We want our kids to be healthy and well, to play, to engage in sports, and to have fun. For children to continue to enjoy optimal health, regular spinal check-ups are as important as an annual physical exam. The first thing your chiropractor will do is conduct a careful and thorough evaluation of your child's spine. Our chiropractors are trained to evaluate pediatric spinal problems using safe, gentle, specific skills to identify, evaluate, and treat any involved spinal areas. This generally doesn’t hurt, but very young infants may be frightened by sudden movement and cry for a few seconds.
Spinal adjustments for babies, infants and children involve very light finger-tip adjustments to correct malfunctioning spinal structures. These adjustment, using no more than two pounds of pressure, is usually sufficient to restore mobility to spinal joints which have become locked and are causing interference with the normal function of the nervous system.
Children's spines are more mobile than adults. As a result, they usually require only a few adjustments to restore normal function. However, the number of adjustments may vary, depending on the length of time that the condition has been present.
Kids should receive chiropractic treatments into and through their adult life. They are very active which makes more frequent chiropractic check-ups a very good idea. Most of us were introduced to chiropractic care as adults. We played catch-up for a long a period of time before we really began to feel healthy again.
If we began chiropractic care as a newborn, the process wouldn’t take nearly as long. Kids are natural explorers, running, jumping, climbing things, falling down, and bouncing around. They’re resilient - one of the great benefits of being young. Incorporating chiropractic care at infancy will enhance their resiliency and set them on the path to a healthy, happy adulthood.
